A mixture of psychometric and intelligence testing is used, gauging different forms of intelligence. There are also motor control tests, memory tests, reading and writing tests, and sequencing tests (finding, sorting, matching, etc). Often but not always, measurements need to be taken that highlight the differences between “dyslexic deficits” and other non-deficit cognitive skills (a discrepancy model).

There is a total of twenty-three tests in use in the UK for assessment of dyslexia.
